Dark Edwina

A Limited Edition Collaboration with Josh Swift

VIDEOS

We’ve found some of our best designs over the years by collaborating with artists. I love getting inspiration from artists because, after all, I’m making tools for them to use. If an artist has a specific idea, I immediately know that it’s satisfying a real performance need, and that’s always a great place to start with a product.
— Philip Graham, Ear Trumpet Labs

A limited edition styling of our most popular model, Dark Edwina is an artist collaboration with Dobro player Josh Swift. A versatile large-diaphragm condenser microphone with the impeccable Edwina audio quality you love, now in a sleek black finish. With meticulously tested, hand-wired electronic components, Edwina is designed specifically for feedback rejection in demanding live settings. Her smooth, detailed sound excels at all kinds of stage duties, from vocals to acoustic instruments to drum overheads, and also shines in the studio as a warm, accurate recording mic. She is optimized as a single-source mic, but with a sweet spot from one out to 18 inches, she does great capturing voice and instrument together for solo or even two performers. Inspired by virtuoso Dobro player Josh Swift’s request at IBMA 2017 for a solid black Edwina to complement his signature Beard guitar, the components for this limited run of Dark Edwinas were hand-processed at Cold Spring Enterprises, a gunsmith in Bristol, TN, using a technique called Cerakote that puts an extremely thin, durable black ceramic finish on metal. This process is mainly used for firearms customization, which speaks to its durability. The Dark Edwina is now available for a first run of 10 units, with a limit at 50 units total.

It’s very tough to step in front of a microphone with a killer guitar, and hear a bad representation of it in a monitor. With an Edwina, you simply turn it up. It’s there. It is sonic perfection for me. It literally sounds like MY GUITAR. You simply can not ask for more out of a microphone than that.
— Josh Swift, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver
